First and foremost the people and businesses you will find on WhozLocal are truly local to the community you are in. We are so excited to be providing a local grass roots solution, because whozlocal.com founders are themselves, local business owners. We know that given the choice, American consumers will buy locally.

While we do list all businesses in the local community, only locally owned or independent businesses are entitled to create extended profiles and add rich interactive photo and video content. We all know whats at the Big Box stores, so there is no need to highlight or feature what they offer. The small local business is the one who gains the most out of our technology.

You will find that 80-90% of all advertisers in our search engine and widgets are locally owned businesses. By pooling their advertising dollars together we enable these neighborhoods and towns to build a brand around their community and showcase the great experience that consumers will have if they patronize the businesses.

We empower Mom & Pop against Wal Street profiteers

We believe our technology is not only comparable to that found on Big-box retailer supported search engines like Yelp.com and Google, we feel that our hyper-local technology is a superior solution for American Consumers who are seeking a great local business to patronize. We take supporting the local business community to a whole new level by integrating a customized local only advertising network and local only search engine into our platform that when used by local consumers points them directly at locally-owned business in which to shop with.

We provide a unique advertising technology that builds a neighborhood business micro-network, it drives traffic to a community with Web 2.0 widgets and search via advanced hyper-local geo targeting technology.

With our Patent Pending Hyper-Local targeting technology, we deliver ads and video of other local businesses in a neighborhood, when consumers visit a WhozLocal powered business website or directory profile. Each community benefits from the custom software algorithms, that focus the consumer attention on businesses that are in the geographic vicinity not all the way across town or in another city.

Our search engine drives traffic to a business when consumers search the internet, and our prices are a fraction of the cost that the Big Search and portals charge. WhozLocal truly is grassroots manifested digitally.

When we started building WhozLocal, we wanted a locally focused search engine that is easy to use and offers all the functionality of Big Brand Search Portals. We also wanted to bring the latest Web 2.0 social / viral technology to every business. With our innovative brick to click technology on the web and on the sidewalk, consumers can take their WhozLocal Mobile experience on the go.

We are a homegrown team.

Our domestic, in house (not an off-shore / foreign) American software engineering team have invested tens of thousands of hours developing some of the most innovative and powerful custom software code (Millions of lines). This technology focuses on hyper-local targeting and local neighborhood discovery, and is instrumental in our mission to rejuvenate local economies and decrease the strip-mining of local economies by BigBox profiteers.

Our marketing and advertising is handled by the the same small companies who we feature in our directory, because we know that they know their communities the best, and understand how to communicate with them.

Our technology team is comprised of seasoned Software Architects and Computer Science PHDs, who not only understand the needs of a fully scalable search platform, but have built and deployed similar technologies for Fortune 500 corporations. Now we are using the same technology used by the Big Box stores to deliver competitve solutions to business owners and greater value to the people who need it the most, YOU!

Why Grassroots? Why only Local?

Were doing it for America. Plain and simple. In this economy the small and independent business owners need everyone’s support. Not only do they make up the lion’s share of all taxes, jobs, and GDP, but they are the backbone of the American way of life.

This new expectation of consumers for convenience, lowest price, and greater selection has been driven by the powerful marketing and advertising muscle of large retail chains disrupting the more traditional retail marketplace, even in small rural communities.

It is time to turn back the flood and rebuild the American Dream of Mom & Pop stores, by providing a portal to local business and independent entrepreneurs via a modern and technologically advanced search engine. Enter WhozLocal.

Big Box vs. the American Dream

For these Big-Box stores to compete, they have to attract away the local customers in your communities to their Super centers, where they offer cheap foreign produced products. With so many loss leaders on their shelves, the small business owners can not individually compete on price and selection.

The pursuit of happiness, afforded to past generations of small business owners has been over-shadowed by national advertising, marketing & supplier channels used by the Big Box chains. Consumers are lured away from their communities to these fringe Super Centers by mass scale branding.

Local businesses are the cornerstones of the America

With the demise of nearly 200,000 small businesses in suburban and rural America over the last few years, we are looking at a national epidemic before us.

Whozlocal.com believes that at the heart of every citizen is the desire to support their locally-owned businesses.  Much of the difficulty in doing so today has been centered upon discovery. As we have become a large and more transient society, it is very difficult for us to drive up and down every street and take note of each and everyone of the small businesses and shops in our towns and cities.

The Tide Has Changed

For decades, we relied on directories like the local phone book Yellow Pages to provide us information on where to find a product or service in our local community. In this digital age of computers, cell phones and the Internet, search engines and digital directories have replaced the old-school methods of using the local phone book’s yellow pages and the local newspaper as a way to locate products and services, for a majority of consumers.

As people want more and more rapid access to informational resources for purchasing decisions the chasm between the technology capability of the small/independent business and that of their publicly traded "Big-Box" counterparts has steadily widened.

In the past it has been too expensive for small businesses to deploy the kind of highly interactive websites and expansive advertising campaigns comparable to the Big Box stores. The Mom & Pop's had to settle for word of moth advertising and prey that a WalMart or Home depot doesn't move in across the street.

No matter how you look at it the independent proprietor and locally-owned businesses can not outspend the Wal Street backed Big-box discounters when it come to dollar for dollar advertising budgets. With whozlocal all that doesn't matter.

Our search and advertising network does not give preference to Big Box brands and we are highly selective with the kinds of advertisers we accept. You wont find Target, or WalMart dominating a section of our website, no fake website domain squatters, or lead generation sites offering zero value. You wont find over saturated BigBox banners and branding on our search engine either.

What you will find is great regional and local advertisers who really want to offer consumers a quality experience and quality serice or product. Honest, simple, and unpretentious.

What's being done about BigBox strip-mining of local economies?

Today, there is a grass roots movement to support local business communities all across our country.  Independent and locally-owned businesses are creating marketing programs to re-engage the customers that have beenlured away by the Wal Street profiteer’s mass branding campaigns.

Whozlocal.com provides a platform which is relevant to our countries economic situation. We value the traditional Mom & Pop lifestyle above Wal Street's. We put our technology where our mouth is, and have built this site in order to keep Mom & Pop on par with the technology of the Wal Street profiteers.

Rethinking how we shop and spend.

Whether you are a business owner or a consumer, supporting your local community comes with enormous benefits.  If you would like to read more about these honorable and patriotic programs, please click on our resources section.

Communication is the circulatory system (think heart & blood stream) of today's increasingly digital society.  Quick and easy access to rich / interactive information is critical to consumer decisions about where to put their ever so valuable dollar. Until the launch of www.whozlocal.com, there has been no mainstream website-portal (Yelp., CitySearch) or search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN) that focuses on the small/independent and locally owned business owners.

Local businesses best support the economic viability and sustainability of their local communities and neighborhoods.

We believe that as One Nation, indivisible, we must support our local communities first. Only in this way can we rebuild the rapidly eroding middle class and neighborhood retail communities we once were proud of watching succeed in their lives and ventures. We need to begin rekindling the quality of life we grew up enjoying. This is a legacy we can pass on to future generations of Americans. We believe that the American dream is an integral part of who we are and how we identify ourselves as American Citizens.

What’s the future hold for WhozLocal?

With the growing support of our great community business owners and Marketing Partners, we are disrupting the Wal Street profiteer agenda, one business, one block, one neighborhood, one town, one city, one county, one state at a time.

We will grow this directory across our great land, and educate people on how to return to our true community roots, shop locally, and rejuvenate the American economy once again.  What could be more patriotic than buying from your small businesses owned by people in a local community?

Whozlocal.com facilitates and encourages you to keep your hard-earned dollars in your own community. Shop in your community and you will invest in your friends, neighbors, and your family’s way of life together.
